The San Francisco International Wine Competition (SFIWC), founded in 1980, set the gold standard for professional wine evaluation, pioneering the rigorous blind judging process that The Tasting Alliance upholds across all its competitions. As the flagship event in our portfolio, SFIWC has provided wineries with a prestigious platform for global recognition, establishing a benchmark for quality and excellence.
For over four decades, SFIWC has remained a trusted authority, celebrating wines from around the world and helping brands gain credibility, visibility, and consumer trust. As the wine industry continues to evolve, the competition embraces emerging trends, offering expanded categories that highlight regional distinctions, organic and natural wines, and innovative winemaking practices. With its legacy of integrity and influence, SFIWC remains an essential opportunity for wineries to stand out in an increasingly competitive market.

The Tasting Alliance Competitions welcome entries from both established brands and emerging producers, both domestic and international. Your product does not need to be commercially available to enter — we accept wines that are still in development, even if the final packaging is not yet complete.
The competition is closed to the public; only staff and judges attend.
Yes. Entry deadlines are published each year on our website. Late entries may be accepted with an additional fee, subject to space availability.
Our panel includes sommeliers, wine writers, educators, and other respected industry professionals. All judges are selected for their experience and palate. You can view our rotating list of competition judges here.
Judging is conducted blind, meaning judges only know the wine’s category, not its brand or producer. Wines are evaluated on their quality, balance, structure, and varietal typicity.
Wines may receive Double Gold, Gold, Silver, or Bronze medals. Best in Class, Best in Show, and Winery of the Year honors are also awarded in select categories.
Winners are notified via email and published on The Tasting Alliance website results page. You will receive official information on marketing opportunities as well as instructions for ordering medals or stickers following the competition.
Yes! Medal winners have the option to purchase physical stickers or license the artwork for bottle printing. Please follow brand guidelines provided upon award notification.
