Shining Bright: The Platinum Winners of the 2025 Asia World Spirits Competition
At the Tasting Alliance competitions, a Platinum Medal represents one of the rarest and most prestigious honors. This award is reserved only for spirits that have earned a Double Gold Medal three years in a row, a nearly unmatched achievement that speaks to consistency and excellence at the highest level. This year, the Asia World Spirits Competition has recognized a select group of Platinum winners, each of whom has proven their ability to stand out among the best in the world year after year.
Blackleaf Organic Vodka
Blackleaf is a U.S.-founded, Black-owned brand producing a certified organic vodka in the Cognac region of France, marrying sustainable practices with high-end craftsmanship. The company emphasizes “laid-back luxury,” eco-conscious design (reduced glass use, organic inks), and thoughtfully sourced ingredients.
Blackleaf Organic Vodka is made via a 5-stage copper pot distillation from organic winter wheat, blended with spring water naturally filtered through Champagne-region limestone. It positions itself not just as a mixology spirit, but one with sipping credibility.
Colombo No7 Ration Navy Dry Gin
Colombo Gin traces its roots to Sri Lanka’s historic Rockland Distilleries, founded in 1924. During WWII, with island supply lines cut, the distillery pivoted into gin production using local botanicals. The modern Colombo No7 range revives that heritage recipe, combining Sri Lankan spices with a classic gin backbone.
The Ration Navy Dry version ramps up strength and intensity (often 57 % ABV) while retaining the botanical complexity—curry leaf, cinnamon, ginger, coriander, juniper, and licorice all play roles. It leans robust but remains balanced.
Martell Cognac XO
Martell is one of the oldest and most storied houses in Cognac, founded in 1715. Over centuries, the house refined its blending philosophy, focusing heavily on Borderies and Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie to deliver elegance, finesse, and aromatic clarity. Martell’s XO (Extra Old) expression is a rich, layered blend of eaux-de-vie averaging 15–35 years, often featuring spicy woods, dried fruits, and coaxed-through oak influences.
Tanglin Black Powder Gin
Tanglin is Singapore’s first gin distillery, named after Singapore’s Tanglin district. Its Black Powder expression leans into local innovation—combining Asian spice botanicals, black tea, and smoke elements to craft a bold, expressive style.
Tanglin Black Powder Gin is bottled at navy strength (≈57 % ABV) and gains its smoky, earthy dimension via New Zealand manuka wood chips and black gunpowder tea. Botanicals such as Java pepper and Sichuan peppercorns add peppery lift, citrus brightness, and herbal complexity.
The Sassenach “Spirit of Home” Blended Scotch
The Sassenach is a collaborative project between actor Sam Heughan and Master Blender Michael Henry (Loch Lomond). Their blended scotch whiskey speaks to blending tradition and narrative, rooting itself in Highland character with a contemporary storytelling edge.
Breaking the mold in blended Scotch whisky, The Sassenach boasts an ornate composition of predominantly Single Malt whisky aged between 9 and 12 years and bourbon barrel-aged 21-year-old Organic Single Grain, finished in Madeira casks. The Sassenach emphasizes the fruity character of the Single Malt, while the organic Grain evokes a balanced subtle flavor, and the Madeira casks impart an added richness and complexity to the fruit notes with a roundness from their maturity. Bottled at 46%, The Sassenach is non-chill filtered and uses exclusively natural color – just as nature intended.
Across The Tasting Alliance competitions, a Platinum Medal is not just about a single exceptional release, it’s about sustained excellence over time. Earning three consecutive Double Golds is a rare feat that demonstrates mastery, consistency, and unwavering dedication to quality. The 2025 Platinum winners from the Asia World Spirits Competition exemplify this standard, showing that true craftsmanship is measured not just in one moment, but year after year.
