The Best “Other” Single Malt Whisk(e)y from the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition

Single Malt Whisk(e)y

Single malt whisk(e)y is no longer confined to Scotland and Ireland. Across the globe, distilleries are crafting distinctive and complex single malts that push the boundaries of tradition while honoring the category’s core values. At the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the “Other” Single Malt category showcased a diverse and outstanding lineup of whiskies from Korea, Israel, India, and Taiwan—each delivering world-class quality in its own style.

KI ONE Signature Single Malt Whiskey

The KI ONE Signature Single Malt is a benchmark for the brand, offering a well-rounded profile rooted in traditional techniques with local flair. Matured in Korea’s extreme seasonal climate, the whisky develops richness and complexity.

Aromas of malt, oak, and soft fruit give way to a palate of brown banana and vanilla cream. The long, pleasant finish is creamy and balanced.

M&H Distillery Elements Lightly Peated Whiskey

The Elements Lightly Peated expression showcases a subtle, layered peat influence that complements rather than dominates. Matured in ex-bourbon and ex-Islay casks, it balances smoke, spice, and citrus in an elegant, modern format.

Gentle peat and earthy smoke intertwine with vanilla, lemon zest, and warming spices. It's delicate but far from simple.
