Advanced Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers (Americas) and a Certified Specialist of Wine with the Society of Wine Educators

Erik Segelbaum is a sommelier and former chef of over 30 years’ hospitality experience, serving as Beverage Director for Starr Restaurants, Wine Director for Schwartz Brothers restaurants, as well as roles at prominent luxury hotels and fine dining establishments.

He is an Advanced Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers (Americas) and a Certified Specialist of Wine with the Society of Wine Educators. In 2019, he was named ‘Sommelier of the Year’ by Food & Wine magazine and, in 2020, a ‘40 under 40 Global Tastemaker’ by Wine Enthusiast.

Throughout his career, he has launched nearly 30 restaurants ranging from Michelin Star venues to casual and multi-unit concepts. In 2018, Erik founded SOMLYAY, providing training and consultancy for hospitality staff and private client services for consumers. He is Co-Founder and Vice President of the United Sommeliers Foundation, Co-Founder of importing and distribution group SWIG Partners and Founder of the GoodSomm luxury wine club. Erik is also a journalist writing regularly across trade and consumer titles, the Smithsonian’s national educator, and an experienced lecturer for a variety of private and corporate clients.

He joined Star Wine List as Denver Ambassador in November 2024.
