Beverage Director, School Night

Born in Lima, Peru and working as an industrial mechanic, Enrique Sanchez dreamt of life in the United States. At the age of 21 he got the opportunity to come to California, and attended school at the City College of San Francisco. In 2004 he began working as a bartender at Bacar, where the idea to become a mixologist was born. Over the next four years he worked behind the bar at Lulu Restaurant, Tres Agaves, and Beretta. In late 2008 he was recruited by La Mar Cebichería to be head bartender and help oversee its opening. Enrique has been recognized as one of San Francisco’s top bartenders by The Chronicle’s Bar Stars in 2010. Sanchez continued his journey in bartending as he later joined the team at Jasper’s Corner Tap and Kitchen and eventually became Bar Director at Fresca Restaurants, where he managed three separate locations. In 2014 Sanchez joined Chef Traci Des Jardins’ team and opened Arguello, where he created cocktails using seasonal ingredients and small-batch mezcals and tequilas that complement the restaurant’s California-inspired, authentic Mexican dishes. In 2018, with Des Jardins’ team, he opened School Night bar and restaurant with a weekday-only concept. Sanchez has a consulting company nowadays (chasquiSF LLC) where he is working around the Bay Area opening and training bars for multiple concepts: State Street Market in Los Altos, El Alto Mexican restaurant in Los Altos, Traverse in South San Francisco, Anecdote in SSF to mention a few.  Enrique can also be found bartending at ABV, one of the top best bars in the world.
